geography

Steinhausen is surrounded by forests and crossed by hills.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1243. Steinhausen was always in the border area between countries and areas of responsibility and was therefore involved in feuds several times . These include those between Kurköln and the Paderborn Monastery (1368), the Great Dortmund Feud (1388 to 1389) and the Soest Feud (1444–1449). During the municipal reorganization in 1975 , the population of the place, which until then belonged to the Büren district, wished to become a district of Geseke , because they felt more connected to the neighboring town because of a promised middle school, among other things. But the situation in the border area was decisive, so Steinhausen came to Büren in the Paderborn district on January 1, 1975 .

traffic

Steinhausen is on the A 44 , motorway exit 59 Geseke / Steinhausen. Due to the motorway connection, the place became the seat of several companies and forwarding agents . Until 1952 Steinhausen was also connected to the railway network via the Geseke – Büren line. As early as 1952, however, passenger traffic was terminated and after the cessation of freight traffic, the section of the route in Steinhausen was dismantled. The Hochstift BahnBus now has connections to Büren and the surrounding areas.
