The Kluskapelle to St. Lucia is a Catholic chapel in Borchen- Etteln in the Paderborn district . The building, erected in 1677, has been listed as an architectural monument in the Borchen list of monuments since April 8, 1986 .

history

In Etteln there was a chapel in honor of St. Lucia as early as the Middle Ages , which fell into disrepair over time and finally collapsed in 1580. Shepherds then reported eerie voices and Pastor Wippermann saw it as a warning of unfortunate times that the population would face as a result of the neglect of the chapel.

Ferdinand von Fürstenberg was Prince-Bishop of Paderborn from 1661 until his death in 1683 . During the Thirty Years' War numerous churches were destroyed and rebuilt or rebuilt by von Fürstenberg. In 1672 he fell seriously ill with an epidemic that was rampant in the Diocese of Paderborn and made the vow to rebuild the chapel in Etteln in the event of his recovery. He honored his vow in 1677. The maintenance of the chapel was the responsibility of the Bishop of Wünnenberg , who was supposed to pay 18 thalers to the pastor and 7 thalers to the sexton for candles and wine. During the week of prayers in May there was a large procession to the chapel, which is repeated annually to this day. Confirmation was given on October 21, 1681 by Auxiliary Bishop Niels Stensen from Münster.

In 1980 the Kluskapelle was thoroughly renovated.
