history

Memorial for the 975th anniversary in 2006 at the parish church

In 1031 Emperor Konrad II donated his goods to "Alflaan" to the church in Paderborn. This is the first written mention of the place, although it is probably older.

Alfen has belonged to the secular rule of the German diocese Paderborn , originally in the duchy of Saxony , since its foundation . From the 14th century the territory of the prince-bishopric of Paderborn ( Hochstift ) was formed in the Holy Roman Empire , and from the 16th century it was part of the Lower Rhine-Westphalian Empire .

In 1802/03 the bishopric was occupied by the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1807 Prussia had to surrender all territories on the left Elbe, the area fell to the Kingdom of Westphalia for a short time . However, this kingdom collapsed again in 1813 and the area fell back to Prussia in 1815, which created new administrative structures here, which are still in effect today in a modified form. So the area comes to the administrative district of Minden, formed in 1815, in the newly created province of Westphalia . In 1816, when the new rural districts were formed , Alfen joined the Paderborn district - here it was part of the Kirchborchen district .

On July 1, 1969, Alfen merged with Nordborchen and Kirchborchen to form the newly formed Borchen municipality . On January 1, 1975 Etteln and Dörenhagen were also named.

Town twinning

Alfen is twinned with the French community of Noyen-sur-Sarthe in the Sarthe department . It is essentially supported by the Franco-German Friendship Circle and the sports club. In June 2000, Borchen mayor Heinrich Schwarzenberg and Alfen mayor Josef Lüke signed the partnership documents of the town twinning for the German side in Noyen-sur-Sarthe.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The Paderborn / Lippstadt airport with connections to Munich, in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands is less than 10 km from alfs removed. The approach baseline for runway 24 leads directly over Alfen, which led to the establishment of a citizens' initiative against night flights.

About six kilometers away is the Paderborn-Haxterberg airfield , where general aviation and glider flights are operated.

The Borchen motorway junction - located between Alfen, Nord- and Kirchborchen - on the A 33 ( Bad Wünnenberg - Paderborn - Bielefeld ) is only 9 km north of the Wünnenberg-Haaren motorway junction with the A 44 Dortmund - Kassel . The southern extension of the A 33 beyond the motorway junction is the B 480 in the direction of Brilon - Winterberg .

A bus line operated by BahnBus Hochstift GmbH (BBH), which runs every half hour on weekdays, connects Alfen with the district town of Paderborn via the municipality's headquarters in Kirchborchen . The former connection with buses to the neighboring Wewer is now very limited to only a few connections per day. The former bus line via the airport in the direction of Büren no longer exists.

A point worth mentioning in the area of transport is that there are no traffic lights in Alfen.

The now closed line of the Almetalbahn Paderborn-Büren was reactivated in 1999 by a private association for tourist trips on weekends in the summer months. 1 July 2006 was followed by the re-closure and shortly afterwards the dismantling and sale of the tracks, the route has not been deconsecrated .

Agriculture

Alfener farmhouses and their residents are compiled in Heinrich Bielemeyer, Chronik Alfener Familien, old houses and their residents.

After the noble Klinkenhof on the Alme was given up, Gut Wilhelmsburg was built from a former brickworks on Kleiner Hellweg around 1812, from where the land of the last Baron von Imbsen from Wewer, located in the Alfener Flur, was cultivated. In 1817 the Klinke Resthof in Alfen was sold to a Mr. Kruse. Sources: Isa Freifrau von Elverfeldt, Wewer Volume V The Barons from Imbsen and Wewer Volume VI Wewerscher Wald and Gut Wilhelmsburg.

It is a Romanesque fortified church with important Staufer frescoes. The entrance was redesigned in the baroque period . Today the church is used as a meeting place and youth meeting place.

Right next door is the new Gothic parish church of St. Walburga , which was built after the old one had become too small at the end of the 19th century. The foundation stone was laid on July 22nd, 1906, and inaugurated on October 13th, 1907. This church contains a valuable Gothic sandstone Madonna from around 1420 in the right aisle and a late Gothic painted wooden figure of St. Meinolf on the west wall of the choir room.
