Church and parish belong to the Borchen pastoral network in the Paderborn deanery of the archbishopric of the same name . The church building has been a listed building since April 8, 1986.

history

Alfen has had a Romanesque fortified church of the same name since the 13th century . The application for the construction of a new church building was submitted on February 29, 1896 by the parish. The construction was only approved in 1906 after Alfen had agreed to contribute to the costs of an extension to the church in Kirchborchen . On July 22, 1906, the foundation stone was laid by Pastor Josef Sünkeler. The architect was Franz Mündelein from Paderborn. The neo-GothicChurch construction was also an economic stimulus program for the Alfen bricklayers, who were all involved in the construction work. The building material came from the nearby quarry on Kottenberg. Numerous donations from the population were collected for the facility. The church was inaugurated on October 13, 1907 by dean provost Franz Nacke.

Furnishing

In the right aisle there is a statue of the Madonna and Child made of sandstone. It was created around 1420 and originally stood in the Böddeken monastery . After the secularization of the monastery, the figure was lost and, according to oral tradition, it was found around 1860 by two farmers in the forest behind the former monastery. The same farmers had previously found a wooden statue of Meinolfus. Both figures initially stood in the old fortified church and were moved after the renovation of the new church in 1974.

An octagonal baptismal font with a fluted shaft also comes from the fortified church. The baptismal font bears the names of its donors and the year of creation as an inscription: Templar judge Jürgen Piper and Evardt Brandt - Anno D. 1618 .
