history

The area of Westenholz has belonged to the area of the later Hochstift Paderborn since the early Middle Ages .
In 1802 the Paderborn bishopric lost its state independence when it was occupied by Prussia , fell to the Kingdom of Westphalia for a few years in 1807 and returned to Prussia in 1813 after the Napoleonic defeat. Westenholz was incorporated into the province of Westphalia , founded in 1815, and by decree of the royal government in Minden became part of the Paderborn district, founded in 1816 .
When the districts were divided into offices , Westenholz came to the office of Delbrück .
Incorporation
Before January 1, 1975, the former community of Westenholz belonged to the Delbrück office of the previous Paderborn district . When the Sauerland / Paderborn Act came into force on that day, the municipalities of this office were merged with the three Lippe municipalities of Anreppen, Bentfeld and Boke of the office of Salzkotten-Boke in the Büren district to form the new town of Delbrück in the new Paderborn district. The legal successor to the community of Westenholz and the dissolved office of Delbrück was the new city of Delbrück. Parts of the municipality of Westenholz were incorporated into the town of Rietberg, Mastholte.
