St. Joseph (Westenholz)
St. Joseph is a Catholic parish church in Westenholz , a district in Delbrück in East Westphalia in the Paderborn district . Church and congregation belong to the Delbrück Pastoral Association in the Büren-Delbrück Dean's Office of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
The church is built as a neo-Gothic hall church supported by eight round pillars. The groin vaults of the side aisles, which are separated by pointed arches, are supported on the capitals . On the outside, consoles correspond to the capitals on which the belts rest. The windows by the Paderborn glass painter Anton Teufel are decorated with Gothic tracery . The choir windows were created by Otto Peters in 1924.
history
In 1470 the construction of the first church in Westenholz began. In 1623 it was burned down by Hessian troops in the Thirty Years' War . It was rebuilt in 1624.
In 1716 the construction of the first parish church in Westenholz began. A year later, the Paderborn prince-bishop Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich raised the west wood to a parish. In 1812 the dilapidated church tower was torn down and replaced with a new one.
In 1901 the foundation stone was laid for today's neo-Gothic church, which was built according to plans by architect Arnold Güldenpfennig . The church tower was retained, but it was raised to about 50 meters. In 1905 the construction was completed and could be consecrated by Bishop Wilhelm Schneider . In 1934 the organ of the Feith company from Paderborn was inaugurated. In 1980 the interior of the church was restored. From November 2010 to April 2011 the church was renovated.

Furnishing
The high altar is a work of the Wiedenbrück school and was also restored in the course of the interior renovation. The altar comes from the Becker-Brockhinke workshop, the figures and reliefs were created by the sculptor Heinrich Hartmann . The Enthroned Madonna was added in 1977 by the Langenberg sculptor Philippsen.
The two confessionals were also restored during the restoration. In 1933 the right confessional was converted into a confessional room.
There are two side altars to the left and right of the main altar. The left Marian altar shows the Immaculate Conception , the right Joseph altar shows in the left relief Emperor Heinrich and his wife Kunigunde, in the right relief the feeding of the poor by King Edward of England. Both are also works of the Wiedenbrück school.
In the baroque tower chapel there is a portrait of Our Lady of Sorrows from the first parish church in Westenholz. The chapel used to be the main entrance to the church.
The celebration altar was created in 1974 from the richly decorated communion benches, which the Nordhagen wood artist Hermann Selhorst (1877–1931) had made in his "workshop for religious art". The motifs are biblical animal allegories: on the one hand pelican and lion, on the other hand lamb and deer.
organ
In 1934 the organ was built by the Anton Feith company in Paderborn. It has 23 sounding registers , which are distributed over two manuals, a main work and a swell, as well as a pedal work . In 1958 it underwent a major overhaul by Speith Organ Builders . In the course of the renovation of the parish church in 2011, the Feith organ was completely overhauled, cleaned, re-voiced etc. by a Sauerland organ building company. In 2015 the organ was extensively restored. The new mixture used in the 1960s and not corresponding to the original condition was exchanged for the originals. This means that the original sound of the organ from 1934 has been restored. An addition is a Zimbelstern , a so-called effect register , which was built into the swell. The following is the disposition of the Feith organ:
