Mettinghausen is a village with about 300 inhabitants, belongs to the city of Lippstadt , Soest district in Westphalia and is located north of the Lippe .

history

The first documentary mention of the place Mettinghausen goes back to a deed of foundation of the parish church Hörste from the year 1194 in which the fields in "Methinchusen" are mentioned. Like the neighboring towns on the northern bank of the Lippe, Mantinghausen and Niederdedinghausen, Mettinghausen also goes back to old Saxon settlements, as indicated by the use of the word -husen (for houses, settlement). It can be assumed that methine was the first settler or the founder of the place. With the establishment of the old district of Büren in 1816, the villages and farming communities Mantinghausen, Rebbeke, Mettinghausen and Niederdedinghausen were merged to form the Rebbeke community. When the districts were divided into offices , which was approved in 1841, Rebbeke came to the office of Boke, which in 1859 was merged with the office of Salzkotten to form the office of Salzkotten-Boke . Mantinghausen left the Rebbeke community in 1861. On January 1, 1975, both the Büren district and the neighboring Lippstadt district were dissolved with the administrative reform and the Rebbeke community was assigned to the new town of Lippstadt in the Soest district .

In the 2011 district competition “Our village has a future”, Mettinghausen and the Rebbeke community took third place.

Free chair

Free chair stone

On a sand hill to the left of the Boker-Heide canal, on the border between Lipperodes, Westenholz, Mettinghausen and Mastholte, there is a triangular stone. It bears three different coats of arms: the Lippe rose, the eagle with the letters WAGzR, which means Wenzel August Graf zu Rietberg and a diamond coat of arms with the Bavarian lion and the letters CABiP, which means Clemens August , Bishop of Paderborn. He died in 1761. Therefore the year 1757 carved into the stone is correct. The stone marks the place of the former "Freystuhl". In 1565, the Count of Waldeck was told that the "Wendish Specks" in Lipperode had had three vacant chairs since ancient times, which belonged to Paderborn, Rietberg and Lippe (Wendische Specken means that a piece of land belonged to those of Wend which was in a swampy area). In the Middle Ages, a free court met here that only negotiated over or against "free", including counts and other sovereigns. The so-called Gogericht was responsible for dependents and serfs. The task of the free chair court was the notarization of changes of ownership of land, donations, claims and obligations from a farm property. This is done today by the officially appointed notary. The “freye chair” was mentioned for the last time on May 4, 1771 by Count Philipp Ernst zu Lippe-Alverdissen in a petition to Elector Max Friedrich of Cologne.

religion

The vast majority of the population are Christians belonging to the Roman Catholic Church . Mettinghausen belongs to the parish of the parish church St. Martinus, which is located on the opposite side of the Lippe in the village of Hörste (see also the section on buildings in the article Hörste ).

Sports club SC84 Mettinghausen e. V.

In 1984 several football enthusiasts joined forces and founded a hobby team. The prerequisites for playing football were created in July 1980 when the city of Lippstadt leased the property behind the former Kieke bakery and set up a football field there. The amateur team played around 20 field games annually between 1984 and 1989 and took part in five to ten cup tournaments. In addition, a “game without borders” was organized, in which the Mettinghauser teams and citizens were involved. From these beginnings a sports club with many activities has grown. Mettinghausers of all ages will find the opportunity to do sports in the SC.
