St. Bartholomew (Verne)
The Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomew is a listed church building in Verne , a district of Salzkotten in the Paderborn district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The small vaulted basilica from the 12th century has been changed several times. The older building history is still unclear in parts. The two-bay nave is conspicuously narrow, the choir is square. The tower above the middle of the transept-like west building is eight-sided. A column portal was added on the west side in 1656 . After the demolition of the south aisle in the 18th century, the building was extended to become a pilgrimage church in Gothic style. The southern choir extension was made in 1902.
Furnishing
- The Altar of Our Lady from 1670, inside is the miraculous image , a heavily reworked seated Madonna from the second half of the 13th century.
