Leo Müsch

Leo Müsch (born February 26, 1846 in Düsseldorf ; † January 6, 1911 there ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Leo Müsch gained his first experience in Julius Bayerle's studio and then studied at the Antwerp Art Academy . From 1866 to 1871 he worked in Christian Mohr's studio in Cologne and then until 1875 with August Wittig in Düsseldorf. In his training at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in August Wittig's sculpture class, his classmates included Alexander Zick , Heinrich Hoffmeister , Georg Neumann (* around 1842) from Hildburghausen, the Dutchman Willem van Kempen , Karl Janssen and Max Reinhart .

Many of his works were created in his home region in and around Düsseldorf. Müsch was a member of the artists' association Malkasten and, in 1886, of the Elferrat of the General Association of Carnival Friends (AVDK) in Düsseldorf.

  • 1901: Jubilee fountain (also Neptune fountain) in (Wuppertal-) Elberfeld , Neumarkt; donated in 1895 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Elberfeld Beautification Association; Replica of the Neptune Fountain on Cathedral Square in Trento, Italy
  • 1902: Tomb of the Deutgen and Smits families (with a Roman triumphator in the temple gate), Nordfriedhof Düsseldorf
  • 1903: Grave of the Schmidt family in Düsseldorf, cemetery at the Tannenwäldchen (north cemetery)
  • 1903: Gravesite of the Bicheroux family, Nordfriedhof Düsseldorf
  • 1903: Kaiser-Friedrich-III.-statue in the entrance hall of the Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle in Mönchengladbach (unveiled on November 29, 1903)

Erroneously attributed works
The four late Classicist caryatids from 1881 at the Kunsthalle in Düsseldorf were variously attributed to Müsch ; they actually come from the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Albermann .
