Alexander Zick
Alexander Zick (born December 20, 1845 in Koblenz , † November 10, 1907 in Berlin ) was a German history, portrait and genre painter and illustrator .
Life
Alexander Zick, son of the painter Gustav Zick , grandson of the painter Konrad Zick and great-grandson of the painter Januarius Zick , first studied sculpture with August Wittig at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf after 1862 . He later switched to painting and became a student of Eduard Bendemann . Zick then went to Koblenz before moving to Paris in 1864 at the latest. There he was trained in Alexandre Cabanel's studio . From around 1870 Zick was based in Düsseldorf.
Through acquaintance with Ludwig Knaus , Zick went to Berlin in 1880. Although still active as a genre and history painter, he was soon mainly known as an illustrator. He made drawings for fairy tales, for family and youth magazines such as Die Gartenlaube , but also for general literature such as an edition of Goethe's Faust .

Numismatic work
Towards the end of his life, Alexander Zick was the designer of two German banknotes, the five-mark Reichskassenschein 1904 and the ten-mark Reichskassenschein 1906.
