Max Reinhart (coat of arms painter)

Max Reinhart (born March 23, 1924 in Schalding on the right of the Danube ; † June 1, 2016 ) was a German coat of arms painter, graphic artist and heraldist .

Life

Max Reinhart was born the son of the carpenter Max Reinhart and Maria Freytag. He passed a secondary school diploma during World War II and was called up for military service in 1942. After returning from Soviet captivity in 1946, he made up his Abitur and studied for two years at the Philosophical-Theological University of Passau . He broke off his studies and, after an internship at the Passavia printing company in Passau, completed an apprenticeship between 1948 and 1950, which he completed with the assistant examination. In 1950 he took over the studio management and was responsible for the graphic and typographical design of books, posters and commemorative publications.

As a heraldist, Reinhart worked as a freelancer for the General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives for 25 years . During this time he created more than 300 designs for Bavarian municipal coats of arms. He also illustrated the eight volumes of Klemens Stadler's standard work Deutsche Wappen .

Reinhart was a founding member of the Passau Art Association in 1949 and a member of the Herold Association from 1972 .
