Kálmán Mikszáth von Kiscsoltó (born January 16, 1847 in Szklabonya , Austrian Empire , † May 28, 1910 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary ) was a Hungarian journalist, politician and writer.

Life

Mikszáth studied law at the University of Budapest and became a judge in Balassagyarmat . From 1873 he worked as a journalist for various newspapers, u. a. the Pesti Hírlap . In 1887 he was elected to the Hungarian National Assembly as a member of the Liberal Party .

His first novellas appeared in 1869, with which he initially had little success. With works such as The Sprechende Kaftan and Sankt Peter's Umbrella , he became one of the leading Hungarian novelists of the 19th century. His grave is on the Kerepesi temető in Budapest.
