Benice (Hungarian Benefalva - until 1907 Benic ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 356 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Martin , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turiec landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the middle part of the torrent basin (Slovak Turčianska kotlina ) on the left bank of the Turiec , where the river takes the left-hand Valčianka . The town center is at an altitude of 426 m nm and is nine kilometers from Martin .
Neighboring municipalities are Trnovo in the north, Príbovce in the northeast, Rakovo in the east, Ležiachov in the south and Valča in the west.
history
Benice was first mentioned in writing as Bene in 1267 and two years later Imrich's three sons received the local property. Until the 19th century the Benický family estate , which held important posts in Turz County.
In 1785 the village had 17 houses and 138 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 20 houses and 189 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, besides agriculture, handicrafts were well developed.
population
According to the 2011 census, 324 people lived in Benice, including 312 Slovaks , two Czechs and one Magyar . Nine residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
188 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 35 residents the Evangelical Church AB, three residents the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each for the Apostolic Church, the Reformed Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 62 residents had no denomination and 32 residents had no denomination.
