Architecture and history

The villa was built as a forest house in 1889 by Councilor Dr. Neuhaus built. An expansion followed later. In 1908 the widowed captain a. D. Wilhelm Bahls took over the approximately 1600 m² property and expanded it again. He also gave the villa in the bathing style the name Rheingold , after the last coastal steamer he drove, Rheingold, which was named after the opera "Das Rheingold" by Richard Wagner from 1869. In 1909 Ruth Bahls (1909–1994) was born in the house , who later became the founder and director of several museums in Mönchgut and was an honorary citizen of Göhren. "Fräulein Bahls", as the museum councilor was called all her life, lived in the villa for practically her entire life. However, rooms were always rented to holiday guests. After the death of Ruth Bahls, the villa changed hands several times. In 2011/2012 it was extensively renovated in accordance with the listed building standards. Today there are two large holiday apartments in the villa and three holiday apartments and outbuildings in other Art Nouveau buildings on the property.
