The Oravská Magura (German rarely Arwaer Magura ) is a mountain range in northern Slovakia in the Orava (German Arwa ) landscape . It belongs to the central Beskids , even part of the outer Western Carpathians . Adjacent geomorphological units are the Oravské Beskydy mountains and the Oravská kotlina basin in the north, the Skorušinské vrchy mountains in the east, Chočské vrchy in the south and the Little Fatra in the west. The highest peaks are the Minčol ( 1394  m nm ), the Paráč (1325  m nm ) and the Budín ( 1222  m nm )

The mountain range is divided into three smaller geomorphological parts:

  • Budín
  • Kubínska hoľa
  • Paráč

Geologically, it is mainly a sandstone mountain range . The area of ​​the Oravská Magura is covered by dense forests, where spruce , beech , hornbeam and also birch grow. Well-known tourist places are Dolný Kubín , Tvrdošín and Zázrivá . The mountains belong to the catchment area of ​​the Orava , a right tributary of the Waag .

Much of the mountain belongs to the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area .
