Giovanni Ferrofino

Giovanni Ferrofino (born February 24, 1912 in Alessandria , Piedmont , Italy ; † December 21, 2010 ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Giovanni Ferrofino was ordained a priest on September 22, 1934 and entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican.

In February 1942, Ferrofino was, according to the Pave the Way Foundation founded by Gary Krupp , on behalf of Pope Pius XII. together with the Vatican Ambassador to Haiti and the Dominican Republic , Archbishop Maurilio Silvani , involved in negotiations with Rafael Trujillo Molina , the dictator of the Dominican Republic. They negotiated an agreement to issue 400 visas for the reception of Jewish refugees from Europe. In total, Ferrofino, together with Krupp, was able to enable more than 10,000 Jews to enter the United States via Cuba , Mexico and Canada .

From 1959 to 1960 he was the managing nuncio in Switzerland . In 1960 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. appointed titular bishop of Zenopolis in Isauria and appointed as successor to Domenico Enrici as apostolic nuncio in Haiti. The episcopal ordination on 26 November 1961 donated him Armando Lombardi and Hélder Câmara and Albert François Cousineau . In 1965 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed to succeed Alfredo Bruniera as nuncio of Ecuador . Giovanni Ferrofino was the councilor of the fourth session of the Second Vatican Council .

His resignation was granted in 1987 by John Paul II .
