Piero Biggio

Piero Biggio (born June 29, 1937 in Calasetta , Carbonia-Iglesias Province , Italy ; † April 18, 2007 ) was a Vatican diplomat .

Piero Biggio was ordained a priest on August 5, 1962 . In 1968 he obtained a licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Lateran University and then graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy from 1968 to 1970 .

In 1970 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and initially worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Panama . Pope Paul VI awarded him on June 1, 1971 the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Other positions followed in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Chile , Zambia , Australia , Switzerland and Taiwan . On July 6, 1983, Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness .

On December 10, 1988, John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Otriculum and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Bangladesh . He received his episcopal ordination from Cardinal Secretary of State Agostino Casaroli on February 25, 1989; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Cogoni , Bishop of Iglesias , and Paul Shan Kuo-hsi SJ , Bishop of Hualien . Biggio was Apostolic Nuncio in Chile from 1992 to 1999 and from 1999 in Denmark , Iceland , Finland , Norway and Sweden . In 2004 his resignation was granted by John Paul II.
