climate
The climate is classically northern German with extensive, constant summer months and z. T. snowy winter. A special feature is that the village was placed on a salt dome. This geographical peculiarity ensures that many rainy areas constantly bypass the village and that despite rain fronts there is always summer weather in this municipality, which ensures corresponding drought in the fields and gardens.
history
The place Stemmen was first mentioned in a document in 1250 , making it the second youngest within the municipality.
Stemmen was hit by the witch hunt in 1664 : two men got into witch trials .

coat of arms
The coat of arms of the municipality of Stemmen consists of a gold shield, which is divided diagonally from top left to bottom right by a blue wavy band . The upper half shows five green acorns , the lower half a black black grouse . The five acorns symbolize the districts of Stemmen, Neddervieh, Dreihausen, Stemmerfeld and Rotermoor. The blue wavy band represents the location on the Wümme . The black cock denotes the embedding of the place in the moor landscape on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath.

fire Department
The community fire brigade has had its own volunteer fire brigade for over 100 years, which was originally founded as a compulsory fire brigade. Each farm was obliged to provide a male family member to the fire brigade in order to cope with the fire disasters caused by lightning strikes at the time of the thatched roofs. Those who could not do this were obliged to pay a fee.
Personalities
This includes the former world boxing champion Max Schmeling , who for many years as a hunting tenant - most recently the Stemmen B hunting area - pursued his hobby every week. An intimate friendship connected him with some residents while playing skat and he was also friends with the mayor Hinrich Peters (born January 7, 1924, † April 2, 1989), who was then over 18 years old. In the meantime, a street in the industrial park has been named after him.
- Anneliese Braasch (* 1935), cabaret artist , actress and Low German author ; lives in Stemmen.
Others
In this rural village, the names of the farms with which the farms were named in the past and are still used today (e.g. Peets Hof, Roans Hof, Hus Hof) are to be emphasized. The farm owners can z. T. traced back to 1350. The classic Low German colloquial language (Plattdütsch) is still used on a daily basis. The black grouse in the local coat of arms was to be found in the district until the beginning of the 1970s, when it was finally driven out by the peat extraction. In the meantime, many other animals such as cranes, African Egyptian geese and the curlew have resettled through the adjacent Tister Moor. Raccoon and Enok can now also be found. Stemmen has successfully participated in the beauty contest "Our village has a future" at the district level and was already among the first place, which led to participation in the state contest.
