Westertimke is a municipality of the Tarmstedt municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district of Lower Saxony .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document as Westertimbeke in the 14th century .
During the Second World War, a sub-camp of the prisoner- of- war camp of military district command X existed here , in which merchant ship crews from 42 nations were interned. The camp was used from 1952 to 1961 as an emergency reception camp for young women and was then expanded into the barracks of an air force unit (FlaRakBtl 31). Today the town's industrial park is located here.

Two kilometers north-west of Westertimke is the Tarmstedt-Westertimke glider airfield , which is operated by the Bremen glider group. There, glider and motor glider operations are mostly carried out on weekends.
