history
Lauenbrück was first mentioned in a document in 1358 and was a river crossing for the rivers Wümme and Fintau . The first part of the place name goes back to the Guelph dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg . Lauen refers to their heraldic animal, the lion . The second part of the place name, brück , goes back to a bridge that existed near Lauenbrück in earlier centuries (probably a pile bridge with a length of 40 to 80 meters), which is said to have crossed the two rivers Fintau and Wümme as part of an old military route . Indications of the actual existence of this bridge were found during the new construction of the Sohlgleite at the confluence of the Fintau and Wümme rivers. About 600 year old oak posts were found there.
The Lauenbrück manor is owned by the von Bothmer family .
