Hanse network
Hanseatic network was a working title for routes of regional rail transport between Bremen and Hamburg and between Hamburg and Uelzen . In December 2003, the metronom railway company initially took over the operation of the regional express trains on these routes from Deutsche Bahn . As part of a reorganization of the network, the existing regional traffic on the Bremen – Hamburg and Hamburg – Uelzen routes was standardized in December 2010 and has since been provided entirely by the metronom railway company. After another tender by the LNVG , the metronom railway company will resume operations at the 2018 timetable change.
Hamburg – Bremen line (Weser cycle)
Situation until December 2010
On the Hamburg – Bremen route, metronom trains (ME) ran every hour. The metronom regional (MEr) operated between Hamburg and Tostedt and stopped at all stations on the way. The Bremen – Rotenburg (Wümme) line was operated by DB Regio with regional trains.
Changes since December 2010
ME trains run on the route every hour, which only stop at the larger stations. In addition, the MEr trains, which previously only ran to Tostedt, have been extended to Bremen, replacing the Deutsche Bahn regional train on the Rotenburg (Wümme) –Bremen section . This means that there is a possibility to travel between Bremen and Hamburg twice an hour, in addition to the long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn. During rush hour there are also additional trains between Buchholz (Nordheide) and Hamburg that are outside the regular schedule. Initially it was planned to integrate the route between Hamburg and Bremen into the network of the regional S-Bahn Bremen / Lower Saxony , but these plans were dropped. The travel time between Bremen and Hamburg is 68 or 82 minutes after the timetable change.
Since the timetable change in December 2010, individual stations that were previously served by metronom trains have only been served by the MEr.
Hamburg – Uelzen route (Elbe cycle)
The metronome runs every hour on this route. MetronomRegional trains also run between Hamburg and Lüneburg . After the timetable change, the MetronomRegional trains will also run between Hamburg and Uelzen. In addition, there should be additional trains in rush hour traffic between Lüneburg and Uelzen. The travel time between Uelzen and Hamburg is 58 (ME) or 72 minutes (MEr).
Award of the Hanse network in December 2010
Deutsche Bahn had also applied for the Hanse network. Their offer was well below that of metronom. The LNVG , however, expressed doubts about the calculation of the Deutsche Bahn and awarded the network to metronom. Deutsche Bahn initially applied for a review of the award decision, but withdrew it at the beginning of March 2010.
Award of the Hanse network by December 2018
The Hanse network was put out to tender again by the LNVG together with the (RE2 Uelzen - Hannover Hbf - Göttingen, RE3 Uelzen - Hamburg Hbf, RE4 Bremen Hbf - Hamburg Hbf) . The metronome railway company was awarded the contract for the Hanse network. From the timetable change in December 2018, Metronom will be on the network for another 15 years. The vehicles used here will again be the Bombardier double-decker cars from the LNVG vehicle pool.
