Elsdorf is a municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . In addition to the main town of Elsdorf, the towns of Badenhorst , Bockhorst , Ehestorf , Frankenbostel , Hatzte , Nindorf , Poitzendorf , Rüspel and Volkensen also belong to the municipality.
history
Elsdorf was first mentioned in 1024/1028 as Alliestorpe in a document from Verden Bishop Wigger.
Probably not in Elsdorf itself, but in the neighboring Elsdorf Castle, lived a lady of the highest nobility named Ida around 1050. According to the chronicler Albert von Stade on her father's side, who wrote two hundred years later, she was a niece of Emperor Heinrich III. and on his mother's side a niece of Pope Leo IX.
Incorporations
On March 1, 1974, the communities Ehestorf, Frankenbostel, Hatzte, Rüspel and Volkensen were incorporated.

The council of the Elsdorf community consists of 13 councilors. This is the specified number for the member municipality of an integrated municipality with a population between 2001 and 3000 inhabitants. The council members are elected for a five-year term by local elections. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.

The coat of arms of Elsdorf is divided and split at the top. It shows a silver knight with a red shield on a blue background, which in turn shows a silver cross. A silver cross and a silver chalice on a gold background are shown at the top at the back. Below is a red castle wall with a silver passage.

The A1 motorway (Hamburg – Bremen) with the Elsdorf junction is located in the municipality of Elsdorf. The 2.35 km long bypass , completed in 2012, connects the junction, also completed in 2012, with Elsdorf.
Elsdorf is located on the Bremervörde − Rotenburg (Wümme) railway line, which today is only used for freight traffic .
Established businesses
The most important companies in the community are the "Heideblume" - Molkerei Elsdorf-Rotenburg AG and Elsdorfer Feinkost AG.
societies
TuS Elsdorf is the local sports club with almost 1000 members and several branches in different sports.
The Elsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigade is also based in the village .
There is also a shooting club that celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014.
