Klein Meckelsen is a municipality in Lower Saxony in the Sittensen municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .

history

In 1388 Klein Meckelsen was first mentioned in a document as Lütken Meckelstede . Around 1500 there were reports of 14 residential buildings with around 70 inhabitants. From 1806 to 1814 the area was occupied by the French. When Napoleon had a road built from Bremen to Hamburg, citizens of Klein Meckels were also called in for manual and tension services. During the Second World War , the site was occupied by the British with around 100 tanks about three weeks before the end of the war.

The place is the national winner of the competition Our village should be more beautiful in 1971 and 2001.

The community is about four kilometers from the A1 , the next junction is Sittensen (47).

The Kuhmühlen station on the Wilstedt-Zeven-Tostedter Railway , about 1 km south of the town center, has not been served by passenger trains for decades. Nevertheless, tickets to this station can still be issued from any train station in Germany; they are valid on the weekdays operating buses on line 3606 Zeven - Tostedt of the railways and transport companies Elbe-Weser . The Tostedt, Lauenbrück and Scheeßel stations on the Hamburg – Bremen line , each around 20 km from Klein Meckelsen, are the closest passenger stations today.

education

Klein Meckelsen is the location of a primary school , which was inaugurated as a center school in 1966 after the previous school locations in Klein and Groß Meckelsen, as well as Ippensen and Vierden were closed. When the Wohnste school location was given up four years later, the two-tier elementary school was built here. In 1992 renovation and expansion work was carried out.

The school organizes several festivals throughout the year and offers students a number of working groups and projects, such as B. a theater group or a biennial Low German reading competition.
