history

The earliest finds show that the area around Bötersen was settled in the Neolithic (from around 4100 BC). Larger archaeological excavations took place in an urn cemetery from the late Bronze Age and Hallstatt Period. Bötersen became known nationwide because of the Bötersen fire pit area adjacent to the burial ground , which dates back to the younger Bronze Age. Bronze Age research became aware of this phenomenon through the publication by Rudolf Dehnke.

Bötersen was first mentioned in a document in 1340. The stem of the place name comes from the Old High German "Buten" or "Putirik", which means "hose"; the ending "-sen" gives an indication of the origin of the settlement between 500 and 1000.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring community Höperhöfen was incorporated.

Population development

Based on a municipal resolution, the construction of new single-family houses on the land developed by the municipality is limited to people who have lived in the municipality for at least five years or were born here. All other building plots are not affected.

politics
