In the Sottrum joint municipality in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony , seven municipalities have come together to handle their administrative business.

Joint community structure
history
In 1969 the municipalities of Bötersen, Clüversborstel, Everinghausen, Hassendorf, Hellwege, Höperhöfen, Reeßum, Schleeßel, Sottrum, Stapel, Stuckenborstel, Taaken and Winkeldorf merged on a voluntary basis to form the Sottrum municipality.
In 1970, the Horstedt community joined the joint community.
In the course of the municipal territorial reform on March 1, 1974, the communities of Ahausen and Eversen were added.

Joint council
The council of the Sottrum municipality consists of 30 councilors and councilors. This is the specified number for a municipality with a population between 12,001 and 15,000. The council members are elected for a five-year term by local elections. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.
The full-time Mayor of the Joint Community, Peter Freytag, is also entitled to vote in the Council of the Joint Community.

Joint mayor of the municipality
Peter Freytag has been the full-time elected mayor of the joint municipality of Sottrum since June 1, 2015 and in his position combines the representative tasks of the joint municipality mayor and the administrative tasks of the joint municipality director .

Through the joint community, the highway is A1 Hamburg - Bremen . The B 75 , which also connects Hamburg with Bremen, runs through Hassendorf and Sottrum .
In Sottrum there is a train station on the Hamburg – Bremen railway line.
Since April 1, 2010, the Sottrum community has had a volunteer-run citizens' bus that connects the districts with one another.
Social facilities
The closest hospitals are the Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum Rotenburg , the Aller-Weser-Klinik in Achim and the hospitals in Bremen . In the emergency medical services system , most of the community belongs to the Achim emergency service district, which means that the contact person for relevant emergencies is located in the Achim hospital.
