The Aller-Weser-Klinik gGmbH is a public supporting company of two hospitals in Verden (Aller) and Achim .

history

There has been a hospital in Achim since 1872. Five beds were available for men and two beds for women. In 1948, the actual predecessor of today's hospital was opened in a converted training workshop and expanded several times in the following years. Due to the increasing number of inhabitants in the catchment area, the Achim hospital was rebuilt from 1974 to 1978 under the sponsorship of the city of Achim. Because of its location, it was also called “The Clinic in the Green”. A hospital was founded in Verden in 1892. It started with 40 beds, which were looked after by 4 employees.

In order to meet the requirements of the health market and to secure the hospital in the long term, the city of Achim founded the Aller-Weser-Klinik gGmbH with the district of Verden and the city of Verden in 2001, which operate the hospitals Achim and Verden. The owners are the district of Verden and the cities of Achim and Verden.

In 2010/11 the company ran into financial difficulties. District Administrator Peter Bohlmann , as chairman of the supervisory board of the AWK, confirmed to the Weserkurier on May 11th, 2011 that without the acceptance of the Rotenburg (Wümme) Diakoniekrankenhaus as an additional shareholder, continued operation would not have been possible and a planned bankruptcy was in the room. In 2011, the AWK generated a loss of 5.95 million euros.

structure

The Aller-Weser-Klinik gGmbH has all the important fields of medical care. The Verden Hospital and the Achim Hospital are plan hospitals in accordance with Section 108 No. 2 SGB V with bed capacities in the areas of gynecology , obstetrics , ear, nose and throat medicine , orthopedics , urology , surgery and internal medicine . A total of 255 beds are available at the locations. After the originally planned merger of the hospitals was rejected, modernization work was carried out at both locations. After the extensive renovation of the geriatrics (3.25 million €) in Achim, a left heart catheter measuring station was put into operation as a hybrid operating room in Verden in the summer of 2017, after a construction period of almost six months. In December 2019 the ground-breaking ceremony took place for the new construction of a ward in Verden.

Around 16,000 inpatients are cared for annually, with an additional 30,000 outpatients (2019 reporting period). Both hospitals are available for emergency care all year round, 24 hours a day. Both hospitals have ambulance stations and are locations for the statutory health insurance and emergency doctor locations.
