history

The region of today's joint municipality Bothel was originally very poor , mainly because of the unfavorable geest situation for agriculture . Many residents had to work abroad, for example in the Netherlands . In 1906 a railway was built from Bremerhaven to Hanover ( Bremervörde – Walsrode line ), which ran between Brockel and Bothel and was shut down in 1958. In 1963 the section between Brockel and Wittorf was dismantled; today there is a cycle path on this section. The remaining line from Brockel to Rotenburg was dismantled in 2009. In 1928 the Rotenburg (Wümme) - Verden (Aller) railway through Westerwalsede was added. After the Second World War , many refugees and displaced persons moved to the area of the Samtgemeinde, which also saw population growth in the following years due to immigration from various German regions. In 1971, the joint municipality of Bothel was initially founded without the municipalities west of Bundesstraße 440. Kirchwalsede and Westerwalsede were not added until 1974, so that the integrated community essentially united the two old parishes of Brockel and Kirchwalsede. The seat of the administration became the largest and centrally located town Bothel in terms of population.

Religions

Most of the denominational residents belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Evangelical Lutheran Christians belong to the parishes Brockel and Kirchwalsede within the church region Visselhövede in which the communities Brockel, Kirchwalsede and Visselhoevede united. The Roman Catholic residents belong to the Corpus Christi community in Rotenburg . There are also residents of the Islamic faith, Jehovah's Witnesses , members of free churches , Baptists , members of the New Apostolic Church and, as in all of Germany, a growing group of non-denominationalists.
