The Wiedau is a left tributary of the Wümme in Lower Saxony (Germany). With its tributaries, it follows the northwestern roof of the Lüneburg Heath , which gradually merges into the sandy Wümmeniederung belonging to the Stader Geest .

course

The upper reaches of the Wiedau is represented by the Mehlandsbach, which is created south of Schwalingen, a town in the Neuenkirchen community , through the confluence of several streams. In the area of the joint municipality of Bothel, the Wiedau flows through a wooded and natural lowland. Shortly after it has picked up the only slightly smaller Rodau from the left , the Wiedau flows into the Wümme in Rotenburg . With an average water flow of 3 m³ / s, it is their largest tributary.

Water quality

The Mehlandsbach and the Wiedau themselves have water quality class II ("moderately polluted") throughout . The Grovebach, which flows into the Mehlandsbach from the right on the upper reaches, has water quality class II-III (“critically polluted”) over its entire length .

fauna and Flora

In the Wiedau live among other eels , trout , perch , pike and roach .

water sports

The Wiedau is a popular fishing and canoeing area . With some restrictions and with good water levels, the Wiedau can be crossed with small kayaks from the road bridge in Bellen near Hemslingen to the confluence with the Wümme for a distance of 23 km from mid-July to the end of March .

  3. Water level data from Worth (Wiedau, MQ = 1.59 m³ / s) and Hastedt (Rodau, MQ = 1.49 m³ / s), increased by the runoff of the remaining catchment area (21 km²), determined from an area runoff of around 10 liters / s km²
  4. Note: This does not apply to the entire course of the Wümme - Lesum river , since, from a hydrological point of view, its largest tributary is the Hamme .
