The Rodau is a 21.4 kilometer long left tributary of the Wiedau in Lower Saxony . The river rises near the Visselhöveder district of Hiddingen in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) at the foot of a terminal moraine ridge from the Drenthe stage of the Saale Cold Age, which is 50 meters deep to the northwest , flows through the wooded and natural Rosebruch in the area of the joint municipality of Bothel and flows into Rotenburg in the Wiedau before it again flows into the Wümme after only 1.3 kilometers. At Bothel, the Visselbach flows into the Rodau, which rises in Visselhövede in one of the strongest springs in the Lower Saxony lowlands and at the mouth it has around 25% more water than the Rodau, making it the main source of the Rodau. The Rodau has consistently the water quality class II (moderately polluted). One of its tributaries, the Schweinkobenbach, is heavily polluted on its upper course - water quality class III.
