Joint council

The council of the Selsingen community consists of 24 councilors. This is the specified number for a municipality with a population between 9,001 and 10,000. The council members are elected for a five-year term by local elections. The current term of office began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021.

The full-time Mayor of the Joint Community, Gerhard Kahrs (CDU), is also entitled to vote in the Council of the Joint Community.

The last local election on September 11, 2016 resulted in the following:

Political party Proportional votes Number of seats
CDU 60.37% 15th
SPD 25.43% 6th
WFB joint municipality Selsingen 6.72% 3

The turnout in the 2016 local elections was 67.36%, above the Lower Saxony average of 55.5%.

Joint mayor of the municipality

The mayor of the municipality is Gerhard Kahrs (CDU). In the mayoral election on September 11, 2016, he was the only candidate to be elected with 82.2 percent of the vote.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The coat of arms, flag and official seal of the joint municipality are specified in Section 2 of the main statutes:

Description of coat of arms
"In silver a blue pyramid topped with an eight-spoke silver mill wheel with 21 blades."
Reason

The pyramid points to the coat of arms of the seat of Selsingen. It is the symbol for the place of justice in the court of the noble residence of the Knights of Selsingen. The silver mill wheel indicates that 6 out of 8 member communities were or are locations of mills, a total of 9 mills, of which 4 are water mills. As an outward sign of the solidarity in the joint community, the mill wheel has 8 spokes for the 8 member communities and 21 blades for the formerly 21 independent communities in the joint community of Selsingen.

Flag description
"The flag of the Selsingen municipality is blue and silver with the municipality's coat of arms in the middle."
Official seal
"The official seal contains the coat of arms and the inscription 'Samtgemeinde Selsingen, Landkreis Rotenburg (Wümme)'."
