After permanent positions at the Westfälische Rundschau (“society department”) and at the General-Anzeiger Bonn , he worked as a freelance journalist for the magazines Der Spiegel and Stern as well as Die Welt am Sonntag. In 2015 he became editor of Welt am Sonntag in Hamburg.

A year earlier, Dennis Betzholz founded the book publisher Plötz & Betzholz with the author Felix Plötz , which specializes in personalities from social media (especially YouTube) as authors. In 2015, the publisher was awarded the Frankfurt Book Fair's wildcard and thus prevailed over 180 other publishing startups in the international competition. In 2016 the Ullstein book publishers took over the young publisher. Betzholz continues the publishing house together with Plötz as managing director to this day. The publisher has already produced several SPIEGEL bestsellers. The two publishers were nominated for the Young Excellence Award of the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2016 for their work.
