history

Place name

The place name Vierden is derived either from fourth , which means heather area, or from vir , which means Urheide in forest area.

Local history

Vierden

Vierden was mentioned between 1015 and 1028 in the oldest bishopric of Verden . In it information was given about the deacon's income from 15 places, including Vierden.

In 1375 the Buxtehude monastery owned all tithes of Vierden. At that time the place consisted of four farms.

Around 1500 the place consisted of six farms and the Schulteschen Gut, which was built in 1358. The owner was Gerlach Schulte , Burgmann on the Horneburg , wick , councilor and bailiff. He settled in Vierden and built a castle with a moat and defense tower. This was set on fire by soldiers of Archbishop Johann Rode , destroyed and Schulte was taken prisoner because he is said to have "obstructed" the trade between Buxtehude and Stade . The estate was further inherited in a direct line; it was not bought as a widow's residence until 1751 .

Tithes were issued around 1870. The place enlarged; new settler sites were created.

In 1900 Vierden consisted of 35 and Ippensen of 17 farms. In the 1920s the village street was renewed.

After the Second World War , the population suddenly rose from 246 to 500 from 1939 to 1950 because of the expellees .

In the 1950s and 1960s the roads in Vierden were paved . In 1967, a 15-hectare weekend house settlement was built in Ramshausen .

The Vierdener Mühle from 1866 ceased operations in 1972 after more than 100 years. The village pub also closed in the 1990s.

The first school was built in 1602. It was the second in the Börde Selsingen. After renovation work, it was finally closed in 1966.

In 2000 a new development area was designated in Vierden.
