Johann Georg Olbers

Johann Georg Olbers (born September 7, 1716 in Oese, today a district of Basdahl , † December 20, 1772 in Bremen ) was a German theologian and cathedral preacher in Bremen .

biography

Olbers was the son of a pastor . In 1747 he married Anna Maria Vogt (1728–1798), the daughter of the cathedral preacher Johann Vogt . This marriage gave birth to sixteen children, nine of whom survived childhood, including the well-known doctor and astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers (1758–1840).

Olbers graduated from the Athenaeum Stade and studied theology at the University of Rostock and the University of Göttingen . He did his doctorate in Rostock. Then he worked as a tutor. In 1742 he became sub-rector of the Bremen Cathedral School . In 1747 he was ordained pastor and took over the parish of Arbergen . In 1760 he was appointed cathedral pastor at Bremen's St. Petri Cathedral , where his father-in-law and his brother Wolbrand Vogt already held office. He and his wife were buried in Bremen Cathedral.
