Community structure

Areas in accordance with the State Treaty that came into force in 2010:
red for the city of Bremerhaven,
blue for the Loxstedt community

The community consists of 21 localities, some of which have additional living spaces. The following table lists the towns and their number of inhabitants (first and second residence as of December 31, 2018). In addition, the respective cadastral areas of the former municipalities of the same name (districts) from 1965 are given.

Since the localities of Büttel, Holte and Schwegen were formed from areas that previously belonged to different municipalities, the actual size of the population cannot be derived from the available data or the population density calculated: For Schwegen, for example, parts of Neuenlande (Neuenlandermoor) would have to be subtracted and likewise how to add the area of Langendammsmoor (1,079 km²). In addition, the sizes of the districts of Bexhövede, Lanhausen and Loxstedt bordering on Bremerhaven also changed in 2010 due to the exchange of territory with the neighboring city. There are no reliable area data for the locations of the Landwürden district.

In a special column, the respective districts are given in which the village is located. Area information that differs or is missing today is marked in the table with an asterisk (*).

history

Locality

The village of Loxstedt was mentioned for the first time in 1059 under the name Lacstidi. Lacstidi means "settlement on the pool" and refers to a moor area that existed between the places Loxstedt and Düring. However, archaeological finds indicate that the area has been used by humans since the Middle Stone Age . With extensive archaeological excavations, the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research (NIhK), Wilhelmshaven , examined predecessor settlements of today's Loxstedt. Traces of settlement from the 1st century BC were found. BC to 9th century AD exposed. You can probably count on a continuity of over 2000 years for Loxstedt. The recovered finds are to be exhibited in the archaeological museum in Bederkesa Castle .

Loxstedt, Düring and Nesse and later also Hosermühlen were parish in the historic parish . Around 1500 the village belonged to Börde Beverstedt and around 1768 to the aristocratic court of Beverstedt. In the meantime, after the annexation by France , Loxstedt was part of the Bexhövede commune in the canton of Bremerlehe until the victory over Napoléon Bonaparte . With the introduction of the offices in Hanover , Loxstedt belonged to the Beverstedt office from 1851 to 1859 and to the Lehe office from 1859 to 1885. Loxstedt was later part of the districts of Geestemünde , Wesermünde and Cuxhaven. The place became a rural municipality in 1840 and was from 1971 to 1974 a member municipality of the joint municipality of the same name.

Incorporations

The municipality of Loxstedt was created in its current form with the law on the reorganization of the municipalities in the Osterholz / Wesermünde area of June 13, 1974 (retroactive to March 1, 1974). The municipalities of Bexhövede , Donnern , Düring , Loxstedt, Nesse and Stinstedt, as well as the municipalities of Büttel , Fleeste , Holte , Landwürden , Lanhausen , Neuenlande and Stotel were merged into one unified municipality. An enlarged joint municipality with independent member municipalities was not allowed in the area around the city of Bremerhaven. The regional reform caused protests, especially in the Stotel area. As an alternative, two municipalities were proposed, namely one to the west and one east of the (former) federal highway 6. However, this request was rejected by the Interior Ministry .

Historically, the places around Loxstedt belonged to Beverstedt, whereas the places around Stotel formed more of a connection with Stotel and Hagen. A special feature is land dignity , as the villages belonged to Oldenburg since the Middle Ages and thus (with a few temporal exceptions) to another country. The associated places formed early on a unit and are still in the district summarized Country honors.

By Council Decision of 21 May 1985, the introduction of a new was municipal coat of arms and flag a community for the community Loxstedt decided. Since the existence of the (unit) community Loxstedt on March 1, 1974, the coat of arms of the (single) community Loxstedt, which existed until February 28, 1974, was still carried with the three horseshoe nails and three roses. The coat of arms and the flag came into effect when the new main statute came into force on September 20, 1985, the day the expanded town hall was inaugurated.

Coat of arms of Loxstedt
Blazon : "The coat of arms of the community shows on a green shield , the edge ofwhich is coveredwith 21 silver shield nails all around , abovea silver wavy band asilver horse turnedto the right ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The silver shield nails stand for the merger of the 21 localities to form the municipality of Loxstedt. The silver wavy ribbon symbolizes the rivers Weser and Lune , which flow through the area. The silver horse symbolizes the horse breeding carried out in the community .

Old coat of arms

The design of the old Loxstedter coat of arms comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Albert de Badrihaye , who designed around 80 coats of arms in the Cuxhaven district.

Coat of arms of Loxstedt
Blazon : "In silver, three black nails facing each other with the tipsin a drawbar position ,accompaniedby a gold-covered , red , six-petalled rose on top and on the sides."
Justification of the coat of arms: The nails are borrowed from the coat of arms of the noble family "Nagel", which was involved in the foundation of the church in Loxstedt in 1371. The roses are symbols of the patron saint of this church, the Virgin Mary .

Due to the close proximity to the regional center of Bremerhaven, the cultural offer is rather limited. The highlights, however, are in particular the Dedesdorf market and the theater performances, concerts and art exhibitions of some associations.

The churches, namely the Johannes-der-Täufer-Kirche in Bexhövede, St.-Marien-Kirche in Büttel, St. Margarethenkirche in Stotel and the Sankt-Marien-Kirche in Loxstedt with ceiling paintings ( Loxstedter Totentanz , Holy Kinship ) are considered sights. and a memorial organ from 1768, built by Johann Matthias Schreiber / Glückstadt . These churches belong to the parish district Wesermünde-Süd in the Evangelical Hanover regional church.

In the Catholic St. John's Church (1966) there is the painting “Holy Family with St. John” by the Italian baroque painter Andrea Sacchi (1641) and a modern mosaic on the back wall of the altar (2001) with motifs from the Revelation of St. John.

The Sankt-Laurentius-Kirche in Dedesdorf has an Arp Schnitger organ. This church belongs to the parish of Wesermarsch in the Protestant Oldenburg regional church.

Economy and Infrastructure

PVC and plastic production in Loxstedt

Loxstedt is a focus area for the settlement of trade and industry in the district of Cuxhaven within the framework of spatial planning . Industrial and commercial areas are available in the “Am Wedenberg” (locality Loxstedt) and “Loxpark” (locality Stotel) industrial parks. In the past, large-scale industrial settlements were also planned on Luneplate . Most of this area was sold to the State of Bremen for the creation of compensation areas. Loxstedt is economically characterized in particular by agriculture , horse breeding, chemical industry and meat processing . By the end of the 1970s, however, only every 20th person was employed in agriculture. Instead, Loxstedt developed mainly into a residential community in the city of Bremerhaven with a high number of out- commuters . In the future, tourism in particular is to be expanded, with the first steps already being taken by setting up hiking and cycling paths.

traffic

The Loxstedt train station

The community is accessed by rail and road. The federal motorway 27 (Walsroder Dreieck-Bremen-Bremerhaven-Cuxhaven) with the Stotel, Nesse / Bremerhaven-Süd and Bremerhaven- Wulsdorf / Loxstedt driveways runs through the area . From the Stotel exit, federal road  437 runs through the Weser tunnel to the municipality of Stadland in the Wesermarsch district in the direction of Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven . The federal road 71 connects parts of the municipality with Bremerhaven and Bremervörde . Another traffic artery is the state road  135 (Cuxhaven-Bremerhaven-Bremen).

The planned A 20 coastal motorway is to be run between Loxstedt and Bexhövede and between Stinstedt and Düring. The preferred variant chosen was confirmed in the regional planning procedure and replaces three previous plans within the municipality. The majority in the municipal council has spoken out in favor of a route south of the Stoteler See, where the village of Holte with the intersection of A 22 and A 27 would have to be largely built over. This variant was also ruled out by the Lüneburg government for nature conservation reasons.

Loxstedt has had its own train station on the Bremen – Bremerhaven line since 1847 , which was downgraded to a stop in 1966. Local public transport by bus is predominantly geared towards the regional center of Bremerhaven and is supplemented within the municipality by school transport and the collective call taxi . The municipality is the traffic group Bremen Lower Saxony connected (VBN).
