history

Oberndorf was first mentioned in a document as Overdorpe in 1316 . The dikes on the Elbe and Oste probably began in the middle of the 12th century and settlements emerged. The St. George's Church near Ostedeich was first mentioned in a document in 1379. The still existing low tower and the first church were probably built around 1300. In 1653, today's church was built to replace the previous Gothic building. The tall spire was built in 1717.

The settlers in the marshes were free farmers who chose their judges and jury themselves. From 1502 to 1511, Oberndorf and the parish of Geversdorf made an alliance with the state of Kehdingen . The Lords of Brobergen owned the civil court consisting of Schulzen, Schöppen and Rathmannen in Oberndorf . After the settlement of craftsmen, merchants and sailors Oberdorf was a 17th century spots . The clay mining in the river marsh led to the development of the brick industry in the 19th century.

The municipalities of Bülkau and Oberndorf joined the Samtgemeinde Am Dobrock with effect from January 1, 1970 , which in 2016 became part of the Samtgemeinde Land Hadeln . Since 1977 it has been possible to cross the river via a bridge that replaced the old ferry connection. In 2010 Oberndorf was re-included in the village renewal program.

Buildings

The St. George's Church near Ostedeich was first mentioned in a document in 1379. The earlier Gothic church and the still existing low tower were probably built around 1300.

In 1653, the single-nave church that exists today was built from bricks with arched windows and massive buttresses as wall templates. The tall pyramid spire on the tower dates from 1717.

Inside: The nave is vaulted with wooden segment arched barrels . The gallery is all around. The towering pulpit altar is based on an inscription from 1663 by Jürgen Heitmann the Younger (1627–1671). It is richly decorated with reliefs , statues and elements of cartilage style . The pulpit also comes from Heitmann, but was only added to the altar structure at the beginning of the 18th century. The three-legged bronze baptismal font is believed to be from the 13th century. The baptismal angel (around 1660) and the crucifixion group from 1663 are by Heitmann. The altar candlesticks date from 1591 and 1601. The organ dating back to 1879 was made by Johann Hinrich Röver . Until 1830, burials were made in the crypts under the church and under the tower. The grave slab of those at Brobergen is on the outside, to the left of the entrance.
