Georg Beckmann

Georg Beckmann (born December 29, 1868 in Bentwisch, today Oberndorf (Oste) , † January 7, 1939 in Gießen ) was a German politician (SPD, USPD).

Live and act

After attending elementary school in Schwarzenmoor, Beckmann went to Hamburg to learn the carpentry trade (1883 to 1887). After completing his training, he traveled to Central and West Germany and worked as a journeyman until 1897. He then worked for the general local health insurance fund in Gießen until at least 1920 .

At the end of the 1880s, Beckmann joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany . During the First World War he moved to the further left USPD , for which he sat from June 1920 to May 1924 as a member of the first Reichstag of the Weimar Republic , in which he represented constituency 22 (Hessen-Darmstadt).

Beckmann was also since 1908, as an employer representative, a member of the trade court in Gießen and city councilor of the city of Gießen and a member of the district council and the district committee of the district of Gießen.
