Wolf Haio Zimmermann (born July 23, 1941 in Budweis ) is a German prehistorian and university lecturer.

Life

Wolf Haio Zimmermann is a graduate of the Graf-Anton-Günther-Schule in Oldenburg (Oldb) . From 1962 to 1963 he studied prehistory and early history (main subject), folklore , anthropology and ethnology at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , from 1963 to 1964 prehistory (main subject), paleoethnobotany and classical archeology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and from 1964 to 1971 Prehistory and early history (main subject), folklore and German studies . It was 1971 at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Göttingen for "Dr. phil. " doctorate . He wrote his dissertation on “Prehistoric victim finds from rivers, moors, springs and wells in southwest Germany; A contribution to the predominant find categories in victim finds "

From 1971 on he worked as a research assistant at the Lower Saxony Institute for Historical Coastal Research . From 1971 to 1986 he headed the DFG research program "Development history of a settlement chamber (Flögeln) ". Since 1992 he has been the deputy head of the institute and head of the cultural studies department of the NIhK in Wilhelmshaven . Since 2000 he has been director of the institute as the successor to Karl-Ernst Behre in the civil service position of senior scientific director. In 2006 he retired. At an event on this occasion, he was presented with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany awarded to him by the Federal President.

He lectured at the Institute for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archeology at the University of Hamburg with a focus on settlement archeology and house research. In 2005 he was awarded the title of professor in accordance with Section 17 of the Hamburg University Act. He also taught in Berlin and Göttingen. In 2009 he became President of Ruralia, The Jean-Marie-Pesez-Conference on Medieval Rural Archeology, and in 2015 its Honorary President. This international scientific organization deals with the archeology of medieval and post-medieval settlements and rural life at that time.
