Overwarfe ( Low German Overwarf ) is a village in the unitary community of Loxstedt in the district of Cuxhaven in Lower Saxony .

Geography and history

The village, a few kilometers from Bremerhaven and the Weser , is characterized by the landscape of marshland . The Luneplate is in the immediate vicinity . Until the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, it was part of the municipality of Landwürden in the Wesermarsch district and still belongs to the district of the same name today .

The place is connected by the state road 121 and a bus line. A collective call taxi also enables regular trips to Loxstedt and Bremerhaven. North of Overwarfe is Ueterlande , with which the village shares a community center, a kindergarten and a volunteer fire brigade . To the south are Dedesdorf-Eidewarden and Wiemsdorf . The place used to be a place of pilgrimage, as there is said to have been water in a well, which has healing powers.
