history

Archaeological finds from the Middle Stone Age indicate settlement in this area. An urn cemetery with characters from the ancient Teutons was discovered. An ancient fireplace was also found.

The original place Schwegen was probably created in the 12th century. At that time the area belonged to the County of Stotel . In 1580, two stately Meierhöfe are mentioned in the money register of the Hagen Office . The name Schwegen "sweiga" is derived from Frisian and means "cattle yard with associated pasture".

A knight's sword found between 1200 and 1400 suggests that the sword comes from the battle of June 26, 1233, which took place between Archbishop Gerhard I of Bremen and the Osterstadern . The sword is in the Focke Museum in Bremen.

Incorporations

On July 15, 1968 Schwegen was incorporated into Stotel. In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony , which took place on March 1, 1974, the community of Stotel was dissolved and both places became districts of the newly formed community of Loxstedt.

Schwegen coat of arms
Blazon : " Split , in front in red a golden bishop's staff , behind in silver a red cloudberry on a green stem with a green, stylized , five-lobed leaf."
Crest Reason: The crozier reminded that Schwegen 1248 by Count Gerbert of Stotel the Archbishop Gerhard II. Bremen has been sold. The cloudberry, which is rare in Germany, occurs as a relic of the Ice Age in the community and is under nature protection there .

Economy and Infrastructure

Companies

Nine farms shape the village. One company operates a contractor for agriculture and snow removal in the port area of Bremerhaven.

A master company for heating, sanitary and sewage technology is located. Likewise, a carpentry shop for the assembly of roof trusses and half-timbered houses, as well as the interior work with wooden ceilings and paneling. A carpentry shop for stair construction and furniture production and a landscaper with tree nursery sales are available. A restaurant in the village offers the organization of family celebrations with the hall operation.

education

There are no more schools in the village. The primary school is in Stotel, secondary schools in Loxstedt. The history of the school system should nevertheless be presented here.

Evidence must be given of the school lessons for the local children from 1839 in the private home of Carl Bohle in Neuenlandermoor. In 1849 a school house was purchased and in 1891 a school hall was built. Many teachers taught one after the other in the one-class room. Around 1900, 56 children in the class went to school. By 1964 there were only 39 school children left. In 1967 the local school was closed. Since then the children have been taking the school bus to Stotel and Loxstedt.

traffic

The village is accessed through the district road  54, which  turns southwest from the state road 135. The districts of Krehlen, Langendammsmoor and Neuenlandermoor with clusters are cut through by the federal motorway 27 and the road leads over a bridge into the district of Schwegen. A small farm road leads to Reepen. Bramstedtermoor can also be reached on a farm road. The continuation of the district road through the village of Büttel enables a passage through the Weser tunnel to the municipality of Stadland and at Holte an access to the federal highway 27.

There are no public transport links within the village. There are only school buses. The next public bus service is on Landesstraße 135 at Hahnenknoop in the direction of Bremerhaven and Hagen.
