Location of Winterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt

Winterfeld is a district of the borough Apenburg-Winterfeld in Altmark Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany.

geography

The Altmark village of Winterfeld, Angerdorf with a church, is located on the B 71 between Salzwedel and Gardelegen . The Baarser Mühlgraben flows in the north of the village. There is a former train station on the southern outskirts.

history

A large stone grave with stone surrounds at the rectory east of the church bears witness to the settlement of the place in the Middle Neolithic .

Winterfeld was first mentioned as Winterfelde in 1348 when Hermann v. Rohrstede sold to Heine Mollern, a citizen of Salzwedel, Lüde von Reklinge's farm with all his tenants . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 Winterfeld is listed as Winterfelde .

The basic word for the landscape name for the place is "-feld", which is particularly widespread in the area of the old Thuringian Empire, to which the Altmark also belonged. This points to a considerably older existence of the place.

The very aristocratic von Winterfeld family came from this place . The former manor belonging to the vd Schulenburg was sold and divided in 1818.

There was a windmill to the right of the road to Mosenhin.

Winterfeld was served in passenger traffic on the Hohenwulsch – Beetzendorf railway line until 1991 , and in freight traffic until 1993. Until 1926, narrow-gauge trains ran on the Salzwedel – Winterfeld route .

Incorporations

On July 25, 1952, the village of Winterfeld was from the district Salzwedel in the circuit blocks reclassified. The municipality of Baars was incorporated into Winterfeld on August 1, 1973, together with its district Quadendambeck (incorporated into Baars on July 1, 1950). On October 17, 1973 Recklingen was incorporated into Winterfeld. On January 1, 1988, Winterfeld was assigned to the Salzwedel district .

On July 1, 2009 Winterfeld came as a district to the municipality of Apenburg-Winterfeld together with its former districts Baars, Quadendambeck and Recklingen.

The municipal councils of the municipalities of Flecken Apenburg (on September 23, 2008), Altensalzwedel (on September 23, 2008) and Winterfeld (on September 23, 2008) decided by means of a territorial change agreement that their municipalities should be dissolved and become a new municipality with the name Apenburg- Winterfeld are united. The new municipality is entitled to continue the name Flecken. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.

religion

The Protestant parish Winterfeld belonged to the parish Winterfeld. Today it belongs to the parish of Apenburg in the parish of Salzwedel in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

In 1903 the parishes of Winterfeld, Baars, Sallenthin and Mösenthin belonged to the parish of Winterfeld. The patronage of Winterfeld and Sallenthin was held by several farmers, kossats and landowners in Winterfeld as owners of the former vd Schulenburg manor in the village. The patronage of Baars was the Baron vd Knesebeck on Tylsen. Count vd Schulenburg-Wolfsburg held the patronage of Mösenthin.

politics

The last mayor of the community was Harald Josten.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on December 11, 2008.

Blazon : "In blue a silver wolf jumping up from the capstone of a silver barrow with black claws and a knocked-out red tongue, three golden ears of wheat enclosed by the stones of the barrow, the two outer ones with a blade." The main colors of the coat of arms are derived from the main coat of arms motifs Wolf, megalithic tomb) and shield color - silver (white) - blue.

According to a legend, there was once a wolf plague around or in Winterfeld. A member of the von Winterfeld family, who lived in Winterfeld at the time, is said to have killed a wolf with his bare hand while fighting. For this reason, the von Winterfeld family has a wolf in their family coat of arms and as a helmet ornament.

The ear of wheat is also taken from the coat of arms of the Winterfelds. The second part of the community name “-feld” also shows that the history of the village is linked to agriculture and that agriculture was of great importance for Winterfeld. In the local area of Winterfeld, more precisely in the parish garden, there is a barrow. Since barrows were created more than 5000 years ago, the village was built around the barrow. Barrows are typical of the Altmark, but a barrow right next to the church is a specialty.

flag

The flag is striped blue - white - blue (1: 4: 1) (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.
