History and architecture

The church , made of field stones, was built around the year 1204 after a dendrochronological investigation. Other data already indicate the end of the 12th century. The floor plan of the choir, which is drawn into the nave, is square. A semicircular apse adjoins it on the east side . The window and door openings have largely been preserved in their original state. There are round-arched step portals on the west and north sides . The portal on the north side still has medieval door fittings . A priest gate is arranged on the north side of the choir. The fittings of this gate are still of Romanesque origin. The church windows are set high and designed as slight pointed arches .

On the west side of the ship is the high rectangular church tower. It has arched sound openings and slits of light on the narrow sides. There is a small recess below the bell storey. The tower is covered with a high gable roof . The tower is crowned by a roof turret installed in 1953 . The gables were renewed in the Gothic period .

The interior of the church is spanned by a flat ceiling. In parts of the nave there is still an original paving. An arched opening that has been preserved in its original state leads to the basement of the tower. The tower hall itself has a high barrel vault . The triumphal arch is now shaped like a clover leaf due to later work. The choir has a groin vault added later . In the choir and apse, wall paintings from the 15th century were uncovered and heavily renovated in 1936. On the left in the apse is the depiction of Gregory's mass , on the right the Virgin Mary in a mandorla between angels making music and the Last Judgment in the semi-dome. The representations in the choir show four evangelists and death crosses in the vault. Saints are depicted on the southern wall and in the apse arch . In the interstices and on the triumphal arch is found as an ornament foliage .

The furnishings of the church come mainly from the 18th century, such as a small pulpit altar with parapet paintings depicting Christ and evangelists and the parish chairs. The simply designed horseshoe gallery and the barred choir boxes also date from this time. Consisting of zinc castings made baptism is in the style of Gothic Revival design. Two small carved figures originally come from the village church of Baars . Below is a standing Virgin Mary from the second half of the 13th century. However, it is deposited. There is also a Vespers picture from the beginning of the 16th century.

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as a monument under registration number 094 06063.
