Hötzingen is a district of the city of Soltau in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony . The village has about 300 inhabitants.

geography

Hötzingen is located in the Lüneburg Heath east of Soltau on the river Große Aue .

The hamlets of Emhof , Emmingen , Stübeckshorn , Cameroon and Königskrug belong to Hötzingen .

history

The district of Hötzingen was first mentioned in a document in 1230. The place Stübeckshorn can be traced back to 1293. According to an old legend, Hermann Billung , Duke of Saxony, was born in Stübeckshorn.

At the end of the 19th century, Hötzingen and the districts consisted of six large and six smaller farms, most of them are no longer farmed today. After the end of the Second World War , many refugee families from Eastern Europe moved to the village in 1945. At times more than 40 war refugees lived on the Meyer family's farm - a forest estate in Stübeckshorn, which is still in operation today in the 24th generation. During this time there were often arguments between locals and newcomers, but relationships improved steadily over the years.

In 1954, the Lobetal diaconal facility bought the former site of a pulmonary hospital for tuberculosis patients in order to open an orphanage there. Lobetalarbeit has been running a care center for people with disabilities in Stübeckshorn since the 1970s.

Emhof

As a result of the Soltau-Lüneburg Agreement , in which the English occupiers were granted a 40 km by 10 km area in the Lüneburg Heath as a military training area in 1963 , the Emhof suffered particularly as it lost large areas of agricultural land. The nature in this area was partly badly damaged, and the practice area was not closed until 1994.

On March 1, 1974, Hötzingen was incorporated into the city of Soltau. The district of Königskrug, which originally belonged to Munster , was also added as part of the Hötzingen regional reform.

The federal road 209 , which previously ran through the town, was moved to the outskirts in 1989. As a result, the old guest houses Pension Berger and Dokus , which lived from the through traffic, had to close.
