Wolterdingen is a district of the city of Soltau in the Heidekreis district in Lower Saxony . The village has about 1100 inhabitants.

geography

Wolterdingen is located in the Lüneburg Heath north of Soltau on the Böhme River .

It is divided into Wolterdingen (village) and Wolterdingen (settlement). The hamlet of Huckenrieth and the new housing estate Drögenheide belong to Wolterdingen .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1245, in that year the still preserved Gothic heath church of the Holy Spirit Church was inaugurated. The place has probably been around since the time of the Great Migration. Between the years 1409 and 1416, Duke Heinrich recorded five farms for Wolterdingen. Until the 19th century Wolterdingen was a pure farming village; there are currently 15 farms in the village.

In 1934 the Wolterdingen camp was established. It was first used by the SA and the SS, then, during the Second World War, for training soldiers. After the end of the war, the camp served as a transit station for returning forced laborers and - until 1960 - to accommodate refugees.

On March 1, 1974, Wolterdingen was incorporated into the city of Soltau.
