Flaminio Bertoni (* 10. January 1903 in Masnago in Varese , Italy ; † 7. February 1964 in Antony in Paris ) was an Italian car - designer , sculptor and architect . Many of his works are world-famous, especially in the automotive industry. B. the duck .

After graduating from the Technical University in Varese in 1918, Bertoni started at the coachbuilder Carrozzeria Macchi , where the admirer of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo discovered his passion for the automobile. A French delegation of technicians who brought him to Paris in 1923 noticed his extraordinary talent for drawing . After his return in 1925 he became chief draftsman at Carrozzeria Macchi and founded his own artist workshop. After that, Bertoni successfully went his own way until he landed back in Paris because of a love story.

On April 27, 1932 Bertoni was hired by André Citroën . He became known for the design of the Citroën models Traction Avant (1934), Citroën 2CV (1936), the legendary Citroën DS (1955) in the sedan and convertible versions (1960) and the Citroën Ami 6 (1961). Flaminio Bertoni later described the unusual design of the Ami 6 as his masterpiece.

In 1956 he used a system in St. Louis , Missouri ( USA ) to erect 1,000 single-family homes in 100 days. At the request of UNESCO , he exhibited three of his sculptures at the Olympic Games in Melbourne that same year .

In 1957 his DS 19 received the award for the best industrial art at the Triennale in Milan . Further prestigious prizes for his sculptural art followed.

Flaminio Bertoni died of a stroke on February 7, 1964 .
