Coal Road (Dresden)
The coal road is a historic road connection in the south of Dresden , which was used to transport the hard coal mined near Hänichen and Windberg to Dresden.
It initially runs from Hänichen in a westerly direction to the Windberg plateau and then swings directly north at the former Neuhoffnungsschacht . It then leads steadily downwards via today's Freital district of Neuburgk and the Dresden districts of Gittersee and Coschütz to Dresden city center.
After 1856 the newly built Hänichen coal branch took over the transport of coal and the road lost its importance. Today only the street name “ Kohlenstraße” in Dresden and Freital reminds of the original abandonment of the road connection.
Former hard coal works on Kohlenstraße:
- Berglustschacht in Wilmsdorf (1852–1905)
- Beckerschacht in Hänichen (1846–1906)
- Persistence shaft in Rippien (1850–1906)
- Glück-Auf-Schacht in Bannewitz (1867–1930)
- Blessing God shaft in Kleinnaundorf (1856-1916)
- Neuhoffnungsschacht in Niederhäslich (1837-1911)
- Windbergschacht in Kleinburgk (1845–1881)
