The manor, which was originally probably owned by the Lords of Boffessen ( Boffzen ), was first mentioned in 1490 when it was acquired by Abbot Hermann von Bömelburg ( Boyneburg ) from Corvey . The manor house was rebuilt in the 16th century and replaced by a new building in 1851 - while the moats except for the western arm were filled. It remained in the possession of the same sex until 1914, most recently by Freiherr Friedrich Wilhelm von Boemelburg. It has been in the possession of the Barons von Wolff-Metternich since 1917 .
