Since January 2013, Tegut has been owned by the Swiss retail company Genossenschaft Migros Zürich , a partner in the Federation of Migros Cooperatives .

history

The trading company was founded in 1947 by Theo Gutberlet under the name Thegu , which was derived from the first letters of his first and last name. In 1955 the name was changed to Tegut . From 1961 the larger branches were called HaWeGe as an acronym for “HandelsWarenGesellschaft” and from 1973 the smaller ones were called Okay! In 1972 the company established its own sausage and meat processing company as a subsidiary of kff Kurhessische Fleischwaren GmbH . In 1973 Wolfgang Gutberlet , the son of the company founder , took over the management of the company. In 1989 the company was transferred to a foundation, whose board of directors appoints the managing directors. Thomas Gutberlet, the grandson of the company founder, has been the third generation chairman since August 30, 2009.

The company has been involved in the cultivation and marketing of organic food since 1982. The company's own sausage and meat processing as well as the organic bakery Herzberger Bäckerei GmbH, founded in 1996 as a further subsidiary, contribute in particular to this . In 1997, Tegut was the first grocer in Germany to accept credit card payments. In 1998 the company was renamed tegut… . The markets now also operate under this name. With the concept of "little shop for everything" In 2010, the concept of Tegut mom and pop shop picked and small shops in the countryside and in districts set up to achieve a site-based care in smaller communities.

On October 11, 2012, the takeover of Tegut's trading division, which consists of six individual companies , was announced by the Swiss retail company Genossenschaft Migros Zürich , a partner in the Federation of Migros Cooperatives . The transaction took effect in January 2013 after the approval of the antitrust authorities and the approval of the administration of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives and the Migros Cooperative Zurich (GMZ) took over the trading division of the former “tegut… Gutberlet Stiftung & Co. KG”. Linked to the takeover is that Migros Zurich will invest a double-digit million amount in upgrading and expanding the branch network of "OKAY GmbH & Co. - tegut ... retail company KG". She also sees an opportunity to sell Migros own brands in the Tegut stores. Migros Zurich takes over around 280 Tegut stores in Hesse, Northern Bavaria, Thuringia as well as in Göttingen and Mainz, Tegut logistics and the headquarters in Fulda with a total of over 5000 employees under the management of Thomas Gutberlet.

The other operations of the former "tegut ... Gutberlet Foundation & Co. KG", in particular the production operations Herzberger Bäckerei and KFF (Kurhessische Fleischwaren Fulda) as well as the agricultural operations, remain with the new "W-E-G Foundation & Co. KG". The production companies and suppliers continue to work with Tegut. The Gutberlet Foundation's shares in the KFF, which was threatened by the loss of its main customer Tegut due to the Migros takeover, were sold to a pet food manufacturer, the Deuerer Group from Bretten , at the end of 2016 ; By switching production to pet food (since January 31, 2017) most of the KFF jobs could be preserved. In May 2017, the Herzberger bakery was reintegrated into the tegut ... group.

The company has been working with Amazon.de since March 2017 , so that many products from the Tegut range are available through Amazon Pantry , Amazon PrimeNow and AmazonFresh .
