Baunapfad near the Bauna Unterlauf between Kirchbauna and Guntershausen

The Baunapfad ( signpost B ) is a hiking trail that was redesigned in September 2003 and is around 18 kilometers long along the Bauna in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .

course

The Baunapfad, which is mostly also suitable for cyclists , leads from the source of the Bauna to the mouth of the brook , where it runs in a north-west-south-east direction through Schauenburg and Baunatal and crosses the flowing water in several places.

The hiking trail begins in the municipality of Schauenburg at the Baunaquelle (approx.  465  m above sea  level ), which is located in the Hohen Habichtswald below the Ahrensberg (approx.  570  m ). Along the initial rivulet of the Vorderen Bauna (left or western source brook of the Bauna) it initially leads in the Habichtswald Nature Park in a southerly direction and, after leaving the wooded area of the Hohen Habichtswald, crosses the federal motorway 44 .

Then the path - dividing the route with a section of the Hercules Path - leads through Schauenburg- Hoof . There it crosses the common route of Habichtswaldsteig and Kassel-Steig , both of which lead to the Burgberg ( 499.9  m ). The ruins of the Schauenburg castle are located on its summit region ; from there the view extends to the west to the Rothaargebirge and to the east to the Kaufunger Wald and Hohen Meißner .

In Hoof, where the Hintere and Vordere Bauna flow together and the path between the Hohen Habichtswald (up to 614.7  m ) in the north and the Langenberge (up to 556.7  m ) in the south runs through the Hoofer Pforte valley depression , it crosses the Kassel– Naumburg , on which the Hessencourrier museum railway runs, and the Hessencourrier cycle path . Then the path leads in a south-easterly direction to Schauenburg- Elgershausen , where the Ederseeweg crosses; Somewhat southeast of this village, it  passes under the state road 3215 (former federal road 520 ).

The path then runs - passing the Baunsberg ( 413.4  m ) south - in the urban area of Baunatal, first east and then south through the districts of Altenritte , Altenbauna and Kirchbauna or between them. After leaving the Habichtswald Nature Park, it leads a little northeast of Großenritte and north of the city center through the Baunatal City Park . At the southeast exit of Kirchbauna, the path crosses under the federal motorway 49 , after which it passes Hertingshausen to the east. From Hof Fehrenberg to the east and beyond the Bauna, he turns east and passes the giant stone .

Finally, the Baunapfad leads through Baunatal- Guntershausen , to end after crossing under the Bauna viaduct of the Bebra-Baunatal-Guntershausen railway line and leaving the village at the mouth of the Baunatal , where the Bauna flows into the Weser source river Fulda at around 144  m above sea level .
