Altenbauna is a district of Baunatal in the district of Kassel in northern Hesse (Germany) with 12,045 inhabitants (2019), spread over an area of 6.27 km².
Geographical location
Altenbauna is mainly located in the Habichtswald Nature Park, southeast to east of the 413.4 m high Baunsberg and is traversed by the Bauna . North of the district runs the federal highway 44 and some beyond it the state road 3215 (former federal road 520 ). In the south-southeast the L 3473 meets the L 3219 , from which the L 3211 branches off to the east of the village .
history
Altenbauna mentioned 1595, as for the Parish a Kirchbauna with the villages Altenbauna, Rengershausen and Hertingshausen church book is introduced. The first mention of the place "Bunon", which corresponds to the current state of research Altenbauna, took place in 1015 in a certificate from Emperor Heinrich II . This document is now in the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt ( document 56, no. 2299). In 2015 the 1000th anniversary of the town of Bauna was celebrated.

Today's Protestant Church of Peace replaced the older village chapel in 1881 . The dilapidation of this chapel was lamented in a school chronicle in 1879 .
The Catholic Church of Christ the Savior was born on November 16, 1985 consecrated .
economy
In 1936 the armaments company Henschel Flugmotorenbau GmbH was established in the Lohwald between Altenbauna and Rengershausen .
In 1957, the Volkswagen plant in Kassel settled on the site of the former Henschel aircraft engine plant. Mainly gearboxes, body parts and exhaust systems are manufactured there today.
