Vedat Turkali

Vedat Türkali (born May 13, 1919 as Abdülkadir Pirhasan in Samsun , † August 29, 2016 in Yalova ) was a Turkish writer and screenwriter .

Life

From 1942 he studied literature in Istanbul and then became a high school teacher. In 1951 he was sentenced by a military court to eight years in prison for his membership in the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), seven of which he had to serve.

Together with Rıfat Ilgaz , he edited Gar . From 1960 he was a relatively successful screenwriter and sometimes also worked as a director . At the 1977 Antalya Film Festival he was awarded for his screenplay for the film Kara Çarşaflı Gelin (The Bride with the Black Veil).

Until his death he was a committed fighter for human rights who criticized the conditions in Turkish prisons.
